A couple weeks ago Jared had his Kindergarten check-up and shots. If you can get a slot, it's fun for the kids to go to "Kindergarten Days". I begged my case that I HAD to have Jared done by May 1st, so I got to schedule an early appointment, with my doctor(miracle in itself)!
I had prepared Jared in advance for the shots and blood check, and as we were going in he told me he was going to be brave and not cry at all, and he didn't! Hooray for my boy! He was so excited to be there, and told everyone about for two days after.
They give the kids the above paper and stickers to mark off everything as it happened, and then end up the visit with the doctor with a fun picture. Dr. Arnold lets the kids pick happy, sad, or scary face, and Jared obviously chose scary, although he couldn't stop smiling. :) The kids also get a bag of cheapy toys that they love and break within a day, like the sticky bugs, tops, etc. The doctor gave him a pencil, and the visit ends with shots and a cookie and juice. A "bad turned good" memorable experience.
On a side note, I love our pediatrician! He is our second, and I adored the first and was worried that I'd never find another as good, but I did. Dr. Arnold knows us, and has a fantastic bedside manner with the kids...my only complaint is that he's too popular. I almost never get to see him when the kids are sick, and if I don't schedule well visits three months out, I'm out of luck to get in to him. **Disclaimer, when I say love, it is in the sense that I trust his knowledge, and care for our children, not any other meaning of love....just in case my hubby reads this post....he always teases me that I get dressed up when I go to the well-check visits to impress the doctor. Whatever!**

awesome! ow cool! we don't have cool stuff like that here. maybe it's the office i go to. HMM. but i love my pediatrician too.
SUPER BRAVE BOY! that is SO AWESOME!
What a brave boy! I heard he has strep again though! DOH! I'm sure sorry to hear that...hopefully that will be ending soon with the tonsils coming out...maybe that will stop the raging strep!
Our ped. is very busy too. I've been wondering if that is just how it is? It feels so good to get shots over with. You make me laugh when you talk about getting all dressed up for the well check. I always ask Jason why he wears cologne to work?
Yay for Jared! How cool your pediatrician makes such a scary experience so much fun. Wish more would do that...
Good doctors sure do make a diference!! Way to go with those shots Jared. I love when my kids take it like man so to speak and they always get a good prize for being brave:)
Good job. I hate seeing my kids get shots, I remember crying the first time Rachel got shots. I've seen Dr. Arnold a few times and I really liked him too.
