Today, Riley hit the magical day of the removal of her braces. Hooray! I was excited for her, even if she wasn't. Wasn't excited, you ask?
Riley is an interesting sort of person. She has the amazing ability to not be excited about fun things for whatever reason she chooses. Still not sure what the deal with today was, but she certainly seems to be on a downer about this. Whenever we ask to see her pretty straight teeth, she won't even smile for us...we get a smirk. In fact, her first comment after looking in the mirror once they were off and she was out of hearing of the orthodontic people was, "I hate my teeth." Huh? Wish we'd known that before we'd plunked down thousands to straighten them. Oh well, guess she has nice looking straight teeth to hate now. (You are so welcome for getting you all set up with braces, getting you to the appointments on time, paying for the things, etc. so you can have a beautiful smile. Thanks for the fantastic show of gratitude.) Isn't fourteen great?
Maybe next time Ron and I will take a well-deserved trip to Hawaii or somewhere without the little ungrateful herd and they can get braces when they are all grown up and can pay for them on their own...like their mother!
All kidding aside, she looks beautiful without the braces, and she better wear her retainer and keep 'em that way! I'll get a picture posted in the next couple of days if we can get a smile out of her!

I second the Hawaii trip. I know an awful lot of adults that didn't wear their retainers and hence a whole lot of youthful orthodontic work went right down the drain.
Tee hee - we DO have the same taste, though you managed to actually make a darling header out of it and I haven't quite gotten the skills to pull that off yet.
ah, you know how they are though, they feel all big, and slimy, and it takes a couple days to feel normal again. hopefully that is just it. i'm dying for braces again. it seems they didn't stress enough the importance of the retainer back in the day to me. too late now.
good luck with that. she'll hopefully change for the better around the time she gets married and moves away.
Li'l stinker! Nothing gets my dander up more than an un-grateful child....I'll bet secretly she's glad, and will be smiling HUGELY at school!!!
I'm sure when she's our age, she'll be grateful...when she's paying for them for her un-grateful child...
OH lady...14 was my worst year on earth.
I was mean.
I told my mom I hated her.
(And seriously, there is not a more sainted woman here on earth.)
Hang in there.
And I think ungratefulness runs in the family...we've got a few of those around here too!
;0)
I remember when I got my braces off...my soon to be hubby told me my teeth looked BIG! Maybe she just needs time to get use to her new look! I'm sure she will be grateful when she is older. I sure am!!
